Death

I don't know where to put this discussion at but...

So, what do you believe/theorize/etc of what happens after you die? I remember to talking to someone who explained to me according to their illumination that after you die, your conscious will dissipate and is reborn into something else (reincarnation?) or you'll become a ghost/wraith if you have a stronger will and aware of the dissipating process.

I wonder about this question frequently myself.

I think a big part of the magical quest is the search for "immortality" or continuous conscious awareness after death. I know this is one of the reasons I practice magic.

Although no one can make a post here to give a definitive answer it is fun to consider the possibilities.

My concern is if one does survive death, would that include memories, and all other mental faculties. Perhaps only the magical self survives.

We will find out I guess... or not?

I think post-incarnate existence leaves us with the following options:

1. complete dissipation of "self" where self represents the totality of our being, e.g. death in that absolute and final sense

2. partial degradation of "self", e.g. retaining personality, important memories, but becoming something less than what we were

3. re-incarnation/recycling of self into new incarnate existence in either full or part (e.g.where the latter would be the dissipation of self, and having certain components of our former self disperse between multiple physical incarnations).

The goal is obviously retaining the self with as much integrity as is possible even at the physical death of the body. However, the mechanics behind achieving this goal are still unclear, but I know people are puzzling away at it as has been the case over the centuries.

I never had a problem believing the good old fashioned heaven or hell concept.

If that is the case then most of us here would prefer hell.

I don't think people go to heaven and hell since they were used by the Church to promise peasants/workers/serfs a afterlife of "paradise" if they followed the 7 virtues (suffering here on Earth) but if they enjoyed life here (7 sins) they get casted down to hell for eternal torment. Which is the I think main point of Karl Marx's Opium of the People comes from since if you have wasted your entire life suffering while they could have enjoyed life here on this world? What if after you die and thats it? I think this is where modern day Atheism comes from due to these points (well much more a product of western society/philosophy anyways).

While I do think however that the "having one life and thats it" model would make not only our lives but also this entire existence meaningless and our consciousness has to go somewhere...

I think I prefer being a ghost/wraith floating around the world rather than continuous activity for all eternity as religion tells me...

I would answer the same as Astaroth, one of my current and main reasons to study and practice magick is to achieve a permanent conciousness even beyond death, to achieve eternity.. "Fucking it into immortality"

The initiate is then a rebel, he/she is totally antinomic, and goes against all laws, including death
